She Loves You (Yeah, Yeah, Yeah)~ Ann Hood
Just looking at the cover of this novel makes me happy, and that’s exactly how I felt the whole time I was reading it! Set in 1966, She Loves You (Yeah, Yeah, Yeah), by Ann Hood, tells the story of Trudy Mixer, a twelve-year-old girl whose number one passion in life is being the president of the Beatles Fan Club at her middle school. The novel tackles topics such as popularity, unlikely friendships, women’s rights, family dynamics, and self-confidence. This book was such a fun read for me, partly because of the consistent Beatles references, but mostly because Trudy is living the experiences of so many middle school students! She’s trying to figure out relationships with her friends, her parents, and herself. Every child fifth grade and up could relate to Trudy in some way, and I highly recommend this novel as a fun read with an ending that will leave you smiling.Book Talk it!: Take a look at the book talk slideshow presentation in my free resources folder ! A Lexile score is a measure of both a child’s reading ability and a text difficulty. However, Lexile does not take into account the content of a novel. So, pairing readers with a text is a complex process, and knowledge of a novel’s themes and plot is necessary to make a high-quality recommendation. If you are curious about the grade-level equivalent to Lexile scores, check out the conversion chart here!Check us out on Instagram! #rileyreadsya
