Hello Universe ~ Erin Entrada Kelly
In honor of this weekend’s insane weather, Riley and I braved the cold and took this pic! I just finished this title, and I really, really enjoyed it. The novel honestly reminded me of a quirky version of Wonder. Like Wonder, Hello Universe features characters who struggle to fit in at school. Virgil is extremely shy and his best friend is his guinea pig, Gulliver. Valencia is outgoing, but other kids don’t take the time to see past her hearing aids. I really like that the novel also dedicated chapters to the bully, Chet. This novel will make you laugh, gasp, and tear up a bit because middle school is nuts, kids are mean, but friendships born from kindness and understanding are beautiful ☺️. I highly suggest this book to readers grades 4-8. Lexile: 690LLexile is a score that helps educators and parents match students with an appropriate text. A Lexile score is a measure of both a child’s reading ability and a text difficulty. However, Lexile does not take into account the content of a novel. So, pairing readers with a text is a complex process, and knowledge of a novel’s themes and plot is necessary to make a high-quality recommendation. If you are curious about the grade-level equivalent to Lexile scores, check out the conversion chart here!Check us out on Instagram! #rileyreadsya
