The Wild Robot-Peter Brown

Happy Halloween! Riley brought some smiles to the neighborhood today in her cookie sandwich costume ☺️🎃. I just finished reading The Wild Robot, by Peter Brown, after hearing so many great reviews! It is a novel that can give adolescents the break from drama, trauma, and crass humor that many of them crave! This sweet story describes robot Roz’s experience surviving the wilderness on an island she was never intended to inhabit. She is forced to contend with nature, animal cliques, wildlife, and motherhood, when she finds an orphan gosling. The novel is touching and accessible for students who may read anywhere from a 4th-6th grade level. Written in second person, The Wild Robot has wonderful character development, beautiful themes, and asks readers to consider questions such as: Are robots capable of emotion? What makes a family? A mother? And are robots alive? The best part of this novel, in my opinion, is the sudden twist at the end. I won't give anything away, but I will reveal that the island gets some very unexpected and unwelcome visitors.  The ending of this novel will make you eager to read the sequel, The Wild Robot EscapesHappy Reading! #fiction #nature #family #action #survivalBuy the box set here!Maturity Rating1/4Pages: 270Lexile: 740LLexile is a score that helps educators and parents match students with an appropriate text. A Lexile score is a measure of both a child’s reading ability and a text difficulty. However, Lexile does not take into account the content of a novel. So, pairing readers with a text is a complex process, and knowledge of a novel's themes and plot is necessary to make a high-quality recommendation. If you are curious about the grade-level equivalent to Lexile scores, check out the conversion chart here!Check us out on Instagram! #rileyreadsya
