Things Not Seen ~ Andrew Clements

Bobby Phillips lives a pretty ordinary life. He's a good kid, does well in school, and doesn't give his parents much cause for concern. Good thing, because they're both so career-obsessed that Bobby's not so sure they'd even have time to care if he did need them. But one day, Bobby wakes up completely horrified to discover that his body has completely disappeared. He’s invisible! While he can feel every body part like normal, no one can see a thing.

For the first time ever, Bobby's parents are forced to pay attention to him because they have a huge problem on their hands: if they can't prove to the school where Bobbys is--and fast--child protective services is going to have something to say about it. As Bobby tries to grapple with his frightening new reality, his only ally becomes Alicia, a blind girl he meets accidentally at the library. No one knows if Bobby will ever return to "normal," but Alicia doesn't care. And even though it makes no logical sense...Bobby begins to feel more seen than ever.

Maturity: 1/4

I would recommend this novel to students 10+. It contains no mature content.

Pages: 251

Lexile: 690L

Lexile is a score that helps educators and parents match students with an appropriate text. A Lexile score is a measure of both a child’s reading ability and a text difficulty. However, Lexile does not take into account the content of a novel. So, pairing readers with a text is a complex process, and knowledge of a novel’s themes and plot is necessary to make a high-quality recommendation.
