Fangirl~ Rainbow Rowell
Wow. This book is real, raw, and so relatable to anyone who has gone through a major life transition and experienced some bumps along the way. I was truly drawn into protagonist, Cath’s, world, and found myself thinking like her and about her, even when I had put the book down for the day. I love becoming so immersed in a book, and Rainbow Rowell always does it for me! She has a unique ability to bring her characters to life through internal dialogue, funny quirks, and incredible imagery. The main character of this novel, Cath Avery, is a fanfiction-obsessed college freshman trying to cope with her social anxiety, intimidating roommate, emotionally needy father, absent mother, and her twin sister and (former) best friend who, suddenly, wants little to do with her. Add to that list: boys. You will enjoy this read. You will feel sad, excited, nervous, awkward, and in love right alongside Cath. However, this book is definitely one I would reserve for only my most mature seventh graders. Generally, I feel this book is appropriate for 14+. #realisticfiction #romance Buy it here! Maturity: 3/4This novel’s content is appropriate for most readers 14+. There are multiple references to virginity, sex, drinking, partying, and many swear words. However, I would not say that any of these topics are the focus of the novel. So, pairing readers with a text is a complex process, and knowledge of a novel’s themes and plot is necessary to make a high-quality recommendation. If you are curious about the grade-level equivalent to Lexile scores, check out the conversion chart here!
